The book is written as a multi-generational conversation which makes this inspirational story very relatable. This is a well-written, clearly-illustrated book that would make a great addition for families with children that are learning to read and learning history. Susanna has spunk and gumption to spare, taking on a new challenge while juggling many family responsibilities. I had never heard her story, and I am glad that it is now out in the world. The book has something to offer all readers. Extensive backmatter and links to the author's website and additional materials will have kids and adults engaged and inspired. Her perseverance and her baking were incredible as is the story told by Karen M. Greenwald. I will be getting this book as a gift for several people and hope that you will too. While women mayors are not unusual these days, it wasn't always like that, and Salter's story highlights the challenges many women faced. Greenwald's choice of voice and structure draws the reader in immediately and strongly connects with young people. Children will feel like they are in the kitchen with Ed and his grandma as Grandma Dora recounts the story of Susanna Salter.
